Paper or Screen?

I know the pros and cons to this debate are numerous and have been discussed at length. But my biggest pro for sticking with paper is all about my kids.

A friend once told me she liked to read paper books because her kids would then see that she was reading. At the time my girls were pretty young, and I hadn’t had to think about that yet, but now that they are older, this often crosses my mind.

With texts, e-mails, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc., I’m on my phone a lot. Way too much actually and it really needs to stop, but more on that another time. When I read a book from my phone or iPad I don’t always tell my girls that I’m reading. But when I sit down with a book, they see it, comment on it, ask me questions and sometimes even go grab a book of their own and come in the same room with me. I want them to see me read and have a reading atmosphere around the house.

I think some publishers are starting to provide an eBook when you buy a paper book. I wish they’d offer that with all book purchases.

Do you prefer to read on paper or screen?
